|Saint Agatha is among the most highly venerated of the Roman virgin martyrs honored for her determined faithfulness.
Saint Agatha was “fixed as a rock in the faith of Jesus Christ” in the face of her persecution and eventual martyrdom death by Decius in Catania, Sicily
Saint Agatha’s window contains a scene of her torture when she was rolled across hot coals. In place of the traditional flowing veil, emphasizing her modesty, that she usually wears in images, she here wears a wreath of martyrdom. She is also depicted holding a martyr’s palm. The predella contains her shield with a lily upon it, symbolizing her purity.
