Saint Mary clasps a jar because the woman who washed Jesus’ feet in the Gospels who is often thought to be Saint Mary Magdalene. Mr. Willet suggested placing Saint Mary Magdalene in a group with Saint Veronica and Saint Martha because they “attended to the physical welfare of Jesus.”
